It is hard to tell someone why we wanted a Havana Brown. It is more than just their graceful elegance or their beautiful brown coat or stunning green eyes. They have a balance that is impossible to explain. Their personality is one that appeals to everyone who meets them.
They are not 'talkers' so much as conversationalists. If you ask them a question, they will answer you. They will remind you if you have let the dinner hour pass unnoticed and they will greet you at the door to ask about your day. Boxes and bags MUST be explored and the contents inventoried before you will be allowed to put them away. It is, afterall, their home too and they must keep up with the comings and goings. They are cats that love their people and their home and are not afraid to let you know it. They are bred to be companion animals and do not enjoy being left alone for length of time. Their desire is to become an integral part of your life.
Once the day is done and you have settled in with your book and a glass of wine, don't be surprised to find the Havana comfortably positioned on your lap or in some cases, on your shoulder. They are unlikely to be climbing drapes, scaling Christmas trees or jumping atop the book shelves but climbing on your shoulder is where they would rather be. They will be interested to see what is in the news or who has emailed you and might even need to tap out a quick note on the computer while you are not looking. If you decide to have a snack the Havana Brown will want to know what you are eating and will likely let you know if he approves. The HB is a hearty eater and has been known to secretly abscond with food left unattended.
If you fancy a bath or a shower, don't be surprised if your Havana Brown attempts to join you. On more than one occasion I have had a cat join me in the shower or play with the bubbles in the tub. An accidental fall into the deep end is not as frightening as you might imagine. In fact, they might just enjoy it a little more than a cat should! Their fascination with water is suprising to many people as is their companionship with the family dog. More than one ComposerCat kitten has become the best friend of the puppy of the house. Our Labrador has picked one of our boys as her best friend and they roll and play together like a couple of children. It is difficult to believe until you see the dog giving the cat a bath...
The Havana Brown quickly adjusts to your schedule and your bedtime will soon become theirs as well. An often repeated comment of Havana Brown owners is that the cat must be touching their person while they sleep. It is true, they reach out a paw and gently place it on your arm or leg and then drift off into kitty dreams. Should you wake during the night, your kitty will be the first to know. Don't be surprised if your feline companion decides to sleep UNDER the covers or alternately curled against your neck where they can feel the beat of your heart.
One of the most unique things about the Havana Brown is their love of travel. That's right, they really LIKE to go places! They are easily harness trained and enjoy a stroll around the neighborhood. A trip in the car usually means that the cats are going to get to explore a new friends house or a hotel room and it is an exciting adventure for them. If you are looking for a feline traveling companion, look no further. The HB will be just as happy on a plane, train or in a car. As long as they are with you, they are right where they want to be!
